Ormskirk Advertiser

With Cllr Liz Savage

-

THE past week has been busy, with numerous Remembrance events.

On Wednesday, I went to Fleetwood’s Northern Remembrance service to represent the borough.

The first half of the service was a concert and the second half was a service of Remembrance.

On Friday we held our own two-minute silence at the Clock Tower in Ormskirk.

Having it in the centre of town appears to engage more people, as shoppers become aware that it is 11am and stop to observe the silence.

I’m told that each year there are more and more people.

On Saturday, I went to a Remembrance meal which ex-serviceman organise in the Evermoor Hub in Skelmersdale.

Sunday was a very poignant day for me as I attended the Ormskirk Remembrance services with Cllr Delaney.

I laid a wreath at St Anne’s war memorial, which I first attended more than 30 years ago as a Brownie who carried the standard.

This year we paraded to the new memorial in Coronation Park which has recently had the names of those who died added to the new stones.

Following this we went to the service in the church, which was especially touching when poppies were released to represent those who had died.

We then waited outside the Market Cross to take the official salute from the services and uniform groups.

In the afternoon, we went to Burscough for a further Remembrance service.

I was surprised at how many people turned out for this, and it really did feel that the whole of Burscough and Lathom had turned out to commemorate those that had died.

In the evening, we went to Christ Church Parbold in Douglas to welcome the new vicar, Sue Timmins to her induction to the parishes of Christ Church and to All Saints Church in Appley Bridge where we were made very welcome.

During the week I also met Rev Sue Guenault who has joined the West Lancashire ministry team at Emmanuel Church Ormskirk.

Outside services and Remembrance events, I was invited to Morrisons in Southport along with some of my charities to find out about the Morrisons Community Fund which can help local charities.

I also visited Abbey Lodge care home with the Lord Mayor of Liverpool who was interested in finding out about the West Lancashire Care Forum which Abbey Lodge has been extremely involved in; and I hosted an event for businesses in West Lancashire wthat have won awards from the Best Kept Village Competition in Lancashire.
