SKELMERSDALE United has announced the details of its BTEC Level 3 programme for September 2017.

The club will work alongside Liverpool based company Coaching Connexions and will offer boys aged 16-19 a full-time football based course at The Uretek Stadium at Stormy Corner.

The programme will further enhance the club’s youth structure going forward and will enable a pathway for gifted footballers into the first team.

James Quinn, the Director, Coaching Connexions, said: “We are joining Skelmersdale United from September but the course we are offering has already been tried and tested with AFC Telford United and Chorley.

“The partnership with AFC Telford has been very exciting and looking back I am very proud at how much we have achieved.

“Highlights from the first year include one player gaining a first team contract and four of the scholarship students being called up to the first team.

“Further there have been two international football tours to Spain and Holland. This has culminated in all the students gaining valuable work experience with the club and making outstanding academic progress.

“The whole of West Lancashire will benefit from our previous experiences, especially as it will be on their doorstep.”

Skelmersdale United FC are holding a trials night at their Uretek Stadium at Stormy Corner on Thursday, November 24 at 6pm.

It is open to any aspiring footballer or any boy of a decent football ability that wants to acquire sports-based skills to take into their future working life.

The academic side of the course will be tailored to the individual’s own academic ability and aspirations.
