With Cllr Liz Savage
ABUSY week has just passed and it looks set to get busier as Christmas draws near.
On Thursday, I spent the day at Crow Orchard School, one of the schools that is taking part in the Mayoral Charity Trophies.
I went in to talk at assembly about the charities and the Mayoral Charity Trophies, any school in West Lancashire can take part by holding a fundraising event.
I also went to explain the role of the mayor and the children had many good questions.
Thursday was also World Prematurity Day so I popped in to Ormskirk neo-natal unit to visit one of my charities and to find out how they were celebrating the day.
Friday will perhaps go down as one of the more memorable days in my mayoral year.
I went to the Concourse to switch on the lights. I and was given a warm welcome and went outside to see the reindeer.
While the press were taking photographs and we were awaiting Father Christmas, one of the reindeer’s antlers got caught in my chains! Luckily it freed itself straight away but I have to admit to having had a worrying couple of seconds.
St Anne’s Church celebrated its bicentenary with a special mass and buffet on Friday. Unfortunately, I couldn’t make the mass as I was at a Christmas Market for Children in Need.
It t was lovely to meet and see old friends.
I spent Saturday evening at the Scouts Charity Ball, where I won a meal for two in the raffle, which I intend to use for my charities at the bingo on Thursday, December 1.
Sunday was quite a poignant day when Noel and I attended a service in St George’s Hall to remember victims of road traffic accidents, organised by Road Peace.
The service was extremely sad and the charity works to raise awareness of road traffic accidents and to prevent further accidents.
Each day on average, three to five deaths occur on our roads.
This has a devastating effect on the families that are left behind.
December 1 – Bingo at The Civic.
January 27 – Irish Night – Skelmersdale Football Club.
Tickets for both events from Jill Ryan, 01695 585033.
