Patients back suspended GP
AGP who was suspended for smacking a 97-year old woman suffering with dementia has gained massive support from the Burscough community
Dr Gary Simpson allegedly smacked the elderly patient with sufficient force to cause reddening during his visit to Stocks Hall Nursing Home on Liverpool Road South, Burscough.
Dr Simpson was asked to attend on October 17, 2014, when it was thought the woman was suffering from a chest infection.
A medical tribunal deemed Dr Simpson’s misconduct to have impaired his fitness to practice, choosing to suspend him for a period of three months.
Simpson posted to Facebook to thank the Burscough community for their support during the past few months.
He begins his post: “I’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to all those members of the community in Burscough who have been so kind and supportive to me and written testimonials to present to the General Medical Council and Medical Practitioner Tribunal Service over the last few, difficult months.
“Thanks to your support and testimonials, the MPTS accepted that I had been honest in my version of events, and lifted my suspension with immediate effect on October h enabling me to practise medicine again. However, I am unable to return to work as a general practitioner because NHS England have removed me from the Medical Performers List, and I have had to reapply.”
“And once again, thank you to all those of you who have offered kind words and support over the last 25 months. It is appreciated much more than you will ever know.”
His post has gathered dozens of supportive comments from members of the Burscough community with the majority calling for his reinstatement as a GP at the Stanley Court Surgery.
Louise Bateson said: “You are a great doctor and I always ask for you when making an appointment for me or my children.”
Jennifer Kato commented saying: “Dr Simpson, you were so kind to me when I had Hyperemisis with my child.
“Your kindness never be forgotten.”
