Christmas gets lift-off – down at the Wharf
AGREAT night was had by all at Burscough Wharf’s Christmas lights switch-on. The event was held on Friday, November 25 when the festival fun began in the courtyard at 4.45pm with musical entertainment from local duo Alex and Livvy Karalius.
Visitors feasted on a choice of seasonal street food including a hog roast, crepes, hotdogs and mulled wine.
The tree lights were switched on at 6.30pm by the lovely Burscough Wharf Christmas fairies and visitors and children were able to get their pictures taken with the elves and reindeer.
Youngsters – as well as getting the chance to see some live reindeer – had the chance to sit in Santa’s sleigh and met his elves, and of course no Christmas at the wharf would be complete without a free visit to Santa in his grotto.
Santa’s new home was on the first floor in the Arts Centre, where children got to have their pictures taken by resident photographers Fat Badger, and received a gift.
Burscough Wharf ’s site manager, Ray Eckersley, said: “The turnout was amazing and the entire evening went really well.
“We decided to invest in the reindeer this year and I think that was a brilliant decision, they went down spectacularly with the children.
“Santa was able to see 101 families in his grotto which is more than we’ve ever managed before.”
Those who visited the wharf on Friday evening were lucky that the weather was relatively good to them.
Food was served by The Sinners Club and guests could sample some sweet treats from the Rose Tree Tea Room.
