Bury lads in to boost Burscough

- BY EMMA SANDERS

BURSCOUGH’S clash against Kendal Town was postponed on Saturday due to a frozen pitch so will have to wait a week to be back in action.

David Powell’s side are still at the bottom of the Evo Stik North table but the manager is continuing to bring in new faces.

He hopes they will be available next week but will be boosted by the return of current players on Saturday after they suffered injuries.

“I’ve brought in a few lads from Bury’s development squad and they looked sharp in training and picked up the tempo very well.

“They’re good technical players so it’ll be interesting to see what they can do. I’ve also brought in Callum Mahoney from Skelmersdale United and his brother, Matt Mahoney who is an experienced player from Bamber Bridge.

“I coached him when he was young – about 17 – and he is a good lad and will bring positivity into the dressing room.

“Liam Nevitt was back in training on Tuesday and Elliot Nevitt will be back on Thursday and could be in contention for Saturday’s game.

“Ryan Schofield was ill on the weekend too but he trained a bit last night so he should be fine for this weekend.

Burscough return to action this Saturday when they take on Radcliffe Town before they prepare for a clash against Clitheroe the following Tuesday.

Powell hopes his side can bounce back on Saturday and is optimistic about their chances against Clitheroe based on previous performances.

“We’re visiting Radcliffe, my old team, but their form seems a little erratic after a bright start to the season so I’m not sure what’s going on with them.

“They seem to be chopping and changing the team a lot but we’ll concentrate on us and have a good go at them.

“We got a good point against Clitheroe last time we played them and we have them at home on Tuesday so hopefully we can get something from that game.

“We just need a bit of luck and we’ve got a good number of players to select from.

“The lads looked fit in training and we need to keep positive and pick up some points before Christmas. We’re a bit behind from where I thought we’d be but we are where are we so we’ve just got to keep working hard,” he added.
