Human faeces dumped at doors

RESIDENTS in Ormskirk were disgusted after mounds of human excrement were dumped at their back doors.

What is being described as “a few weeks worth” of faeces was left in an entry way behind a row of terraced houses on Burscough Street on Friday night.

Ronnie Hale, a resident affected by the dumping, told the Advertiser: “It is disgusting to come out of your home to find this.

“Whoever did this should be ashamed of themselves.”

Mr Hale was alerted to the issue by his neighbour and together they worked out that whoever dumped the excrement would have done so between 8pm and 11pm on Friday, December 2.

Mr Hale continued: “We have contacted the council in the hope of getting the area cleaned properly and the faeces removed but they are refusing to do so.”

According to Mr Hale, a representative from West Lancashire Borough Council told him that they would not be removing the biological waste as it was dumped on unadopted land that does not belong to the council.

The land where the waste was left is used by residents to enter the rear of their properties. Many of them use the entry to drive their cars up to the back of their homes.

Marjorie Porter lives on Burscough Street and is a member of the resident’s association.

She told the Advertiser: “We have had problems with students before but this is not a student incident.

“It is quite clearly human excrement because there is toilet roll mixed in with it.

“I can’t really speculate the reason behind why someone would do this, but I just hope it doesn’t happen again.”

“My neighbour George has put bleach down and poured sand over the top but none of us know how to properly dispose of waste like this so we aren’t going to touch it before we know it won’t be harmful.

“We’re shocked at the council and how passive they were of the issue. We all pay our council tax and are feeling really let down right now.”

Despite originally saying they would not be able to get involved with the situation, a spokesperson for West Lancashire Borough Council said: “The council understands that this situation is distressing for residents.

“Ordinarily the council would not go onto this lane to clean this up as the area of land is neither owned nor adopted by this council or the county council.

“However on this occasion, given the nature of the materials, the council will be clearing this up as soon as possible as a goodwill gesture to residents.”
