YOU can stay informed about West Lancashire Borough Council services if they are affected by winter weather by keeping an eye on the website www.westlancs.gov.uk/winter and following @WestlancsB­C on Twitter.

Residents and businesses can find out up-to-the-minute informatio­n if there are changes to borough council services due to adverse weather conditions.

Signing up to Twitter is free and can be done at www.twitter. com.

The ‘blue light’ Emergency Services also use Twitter to give out urgent informatio­n.

If you visit www.westlancs.gov. uk/winter or follow us on Twitter you will be the first to know if there are any changes to services, including refuse and recycling collection­s.

The council is also urging residents to be prepared for floods, and to check if they need to take steps to protect their homes.

The storms last winter, in particular Storm Eva on Boxing Day, had devastatin­g effects.

It caused the worst flooding ever recorded in West Lancashire and almost 300 properties were flooded internally.

Many people had to leave their homes because of the damage.

Informatio­n to help residents decide if they should take steps to protect their property is provided on the council website.

There is also informatio­n about what to do if a flood occurs.

Cllr Ian Moran, leader of West Lancashire Borough Council, said: “All the council’s staff work hard to ensure they are fully prepared should bad weather arrive.

“By keeping an eye on our website and following us on Twitter people will receive important updates about affected borough council services, as soon as they happen.’’

Cllr Moran added: “I would encourage people to go online to find out more about winter services.

“Homes and communitie­s can be devastated by flooding and we urge people to go to the website, look at the flood awareness pages and consider what action they should take.
