Ormskirk Advertiser

With Cllr Liz Savage

-

BBC Radio Lancashire visited Ormskirk on Wednesday and I was asked to go along to speak to John Gillmore about my Mayoral year so far.

It’s the second time that I’ve been invited to speak on the programme and I always like to go on as I feel it raises the profile of our local towns across Lancashire.

I’m hoping that they will be able to visit again soon.

Each year, Mayors say how surprised they are to find out about some of the activities that are occurring across the borough.

This week has been no exception.

On Monday I had a visit to Twinkle House and found out about the work that they do in relation to health and wellbeing.

I have to say that since coming back from there I have been much more relaxed.

It’s definitely worth taking a look at their website and viewing the wide range of services that they are able to provide.

On Sunday I had the pleasure of attending the Ormskirk and Maghull Lions Christmas Party which they hold each year for families of children with a disability to attend.

At the party Father Christmas arrived and I helped him to give out presents to the children.

The children had a fantastic time and the Lions do such a fantastic job.

It feels that without our voluntary organisations that West Lancashire would be a far less vibrant place.

The long-awaited mayoral bingo was held on Thursday and many local businesses supported the event with prizes.

Many many thanks to all of them.

We are still awaiting a final figure after costs are taken into account but the event has raised approximately £735.

Thank you to everyone who attended.

Our next mayoral charity event will be held on January 27 at Skelmersdale Football Club and will be an Irish Night. The event will include some Irish stew and the tickets will be £10. Please contact Jill Ryan on 01695 585017 to reserve your ticket.
