Clothing chain plans store for retail park

-

ANATIONAL clothing chain wants planning restrictions removed from a site in Burscough so it can open a new store there.

Peacocks, which has over 400 stores across the country, is seeking planning permission from West Lancashire Borough Council to move into Unit 6 on Ringtail Retail Park.

If the new 468 sq m shop is allowed to open, it would see the creation of 13 jobs: a full-time manager and deputy manager, plus 11 part-time workers.

At present, there are a number of restrictions on the types of businesses allowed on the fledgling retail park, placed to protect businesses in Burscough town centre and Ormskirk town centre.

The restrictions include: clothing, footwear, jewellery, accessories and ancillary items, DIY home improvement goods, garden products, pets and pet products, furnishings, beds, electrical goods, household textiles, furniture and floor coverings.

Aldi and B&M Bargains have already opened at the retail park after challenging some of the restrictions.

Booths supermarket was the first tenant in the retail park to open, as it began trading in mid-July 2015.

The second phase of development, which included six non-food retail units, started in late 2015 with firms signed up including Pets at Home and B&M Bargains.

A spokesman for CBRE, which has submitted the plans, said: “Peacocks is a fashion retail chain based in Cardiff, Wales.

“The chain is a part of the Edinburgh Woollen Mill (EWM) group and employs over 6,000 people. There are currently over 400 Peacocks retail outlets located in the UnK. As a value fashion store, Peacocks primarily focus is women’s, men’s and child clothing, footwear and jewellery.”

CBRE said Peacocks was keen to move into Ringtail Retail Park as there is no site available in Burscough that could accommodate its plans for a 468sq m store.
