Tate provides art opportunit­y for students

THE 16-month redevelopm­ent of Hurlston Hall golf club in Scarisbric­k is now complete and the venue is already reporting increases in bookings.

More than £2.5m has been invested by owners of the club in a comprehens­ive rebuild which left “not one inch” of the old building undevelope­d and created 19 jobs for local people.

The investment has resulted in a two-floor extension to the main building, more than doubling the capacity of the conference and wedding facilities.

The room can now seat 300 people in a new event space surrounded by panoramic views of GROUPS of Edge Hill University students are being given the chance to work alongside leading artists as part of a new project at Tate Liverpool.

Tate Exchange provides a designated space in the heart of Tate Liverpool for everyone to collaborat­e, test ideas and discover new perspectiv­es on life, through art. the course and wrap-around balconies with frameless screens to maximise the views.

The cost of the glass alone was in excess of £180,000.

Downstairs, money has also been invested in improving facilities for players with new changing rooms and members’ bar and a new restaurant.

The Scullery is open to the public as well as members and offers a full menu, including pizza from the newly-installed wood-fired pizza oven.

Managing director Aiofe O’Brien said the investment was part of the strategy developed for the club since her family acquired it in 2007.

She said: “We have made a number of incrementa­l improvemen­ts since we took over the club to keep it up to modern standards

This new programme brings together internatio­nal artists alongside partner organisati­ons and members of the public.

Edge Hill is one of the founding associate organisati­ons which are working with Tate Liverpool on the project.

Students from four creative subject areas at Edge Hill are taking part in the and to meet the expectatio­n of our members and the public.

“This latest investment is a step change in our offer and makes Hurlston Hall a real destinatio­n for all sorts of reasons.

“The facilities now are just stunning and we are so pleased that the investment is already paying off.

“We’re really expanding our customer base and seeing a noticeable increase in event bookings, especially for weddings, and a lot more footfall to the spa and gym.

“As a family-run and managed business we have a unique selling point and people booking with us know that we’ll be there, on hand, throughout their day, whether that’s a wedding, a spa package or just lunch.”

In line with the hall’s policy to initiative and animation students launched the Tate Exchange Liverpool programme at the gallery at the end of November.

The Hurlston Hall site includes a caravan park, a crown green bowling green, model boating lake and well-stocked trout fishing lake alongside the restaurant, gym and spa and golfing facilities.

There are also two renovated cottages on site which are primarily used by wedding parties.

The latest investment not only secures the jobs of the people employed by Hurlston Hall but also creates a further 19 positions, including those of chef and restaurant manager.
