Council’s caring cards

-

LANCASHIRE County Council’s official Christmas cards have this year been designed by looked after children, following a countywide competition.

Children were encouraged to enter the competition by their foster carers and had to draw a picture on a winter or Christmas theme.

The winners will get a pack of their own cards to use themselves plus a small gift.

The entries were judged by Lancashire County Council chief executive Jo Turton and council leader Jennifer Mein, who will be sending the cards as the official LCC corporate Christmas card.

Staff at the council will be able to use the designs as an e card.

The winning children are Harvey, seven, winner of the 3-7 years category, Gavanna, nine, winner of the 8-11 years category and Kristyna, 14, winner of the 12 years and above category.

Cllr Mein said: “It was a tough task selecting the winners from the many brilliant entries and I was truly inspired to see how many talented artists we have in our midst.”

Lancashire County Council is increasing the allowances payable to new foster carers by at least £115 per week in recognition of their valuable role.

New foster carers can expect to receive between £241 and £415 for each child they care for.
