Diamond digging for St Bede’s
ST Bede’s Catholic High school opened its doors for the first time 60 years ago.
As part of its diamond jubilee celebrations, the Friends of St Bede’s provided two cherry trees to mark the anniversary.
Cllr Liz Savage, the Mayor of West Lancashire Borough Council and a former pupil at St Bede’s, officiated at the tree planting and time capsule burial.
The Friends of St Bede’s also supplied prizes for two competitions.
One was for producing an appropriate contents list for the time capsule and the winner was Matthew Reynolds from Year 10.
Isabella Murray in Year eight, won the 60th anniversary logo competition.
The logo will be used throughout the academic year to highlight the diamond anniversary.
The trees were planted by staff and clients from Midstream, a training centre in West Lancashire which caters for people with learning difficulties and other special needs.
The school community has a number of other celebration events planned through the year.
There is a diamond jubilee celebration evening on July 15, 2017 being organised by the Friends of St Bede’s.
Also, the whole school will be celebrating Mass in Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral on the morning of July 20, 2017.
Parents, past pupils, former staff and anyone with a connection to the school are invited to attend the Mass.
St Bede’s is also asking anyone who has any photographs or newspaper cuttings of pupils or staff of St Bede’s over the past 60 years to please send them to 60th anniversaryphotos@ sbchs.co.uk Please ensure that any photographs or cuttings sent by email have the names of the people and the year clearly recorded in the email.
