Cathedral Christmas for school
SCARISBRICK Hall School concluded its Christmas celebrations on December 15 in Liverpool’s Metropolitan Cathedral.
Joined by Father Peter Cullen, Chaplain to the university of Sheffield, and Rev Ross Moughtin from Christ Church in Aughton, the school recalled the Christmas story in music and readings, including one by Scarisbrick Hall headmaster, Jeff Shaw.
The theme of the service was light in time of darkness and the two churches united to provide a strong message of hope to the congregation of over 1,000. Music was led by the Chamber Choir alongside the staff, singing traditional favourites such as O Holy Night and Hark the Herald Angels Sing along side contemporary music by Matt Redman.
The most poignant moment in the service was when Father Peter and Reverend Ross said the final prayers of the service together uniting the Anglican and Catholic Churches alongside the community of Scarisbrick Hall School.
Scarisbrick Hall is one of the best examples of Victorian Gothic (also referred to as Neo Gothic or Gothic Revival) architecture in England.
Hidden away in 50 acres of rolling private land, it has been the site of an independent school since 1964 and is currently undergoing a £15m redevelopment in which – with the close co-operation of English Heritage – the building’s structure and the unique grounds are being restored and renovated.
2016 was a record year of examination results for the school, with an overall pass rate of 94% and 100% pass rates in 13 different GCSE subjects.
