Phantom star brings music of West End to Edge Hill
OLIVIER and Tony Award-nominated musical theatre star Ramin Karimloo will visit Ormskirk on Monday for a rare North West performance.
Ramin and The Broadgrass Band will perform a mixture of well-known show tunes and original compositions at The Arts Centre, Edge Hill University on Monday, January 16.
Best known for playing leading roles in The Phantom Of The Opera and Les Misérables in the West End, he was also the original Phantom in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Love Never Dies and made his Broadway debut as Valjean in the 2014 revival of Les Misérables.
This is a unique opportunity to see Ramin perform in an intimate venue before he returns to Broadway to star in the premiere of the musical Anastasia later this year.
Cathy Butterworth, arts manager at Edge Hill, said: “It’s fantastic to start our 2017 programme with such a high-profile and illustrious performer and audiences can expect to see a lot more events and performances of this calibre across art forms from this season on.”
Clare Chandler, lecturer in musical theatre, said: “To have an artist of such calibre and credibility perform at Edge Hill is a wonderful opportunity for Edge Hill University students, and indeed our staff.
“It is not every day that the students are able to see a Tony and Olivier award nominated performer, who has performed across the globe playing lead roles in some of the biggest musicals in the world, live on their own campus.
“Being able to watch Ramin perform songs from those shows will undoubtedly inspire and motivate the students, and they will also have the opportunity to speak to him during a special Q&A sesson.
“This is a wonderful event which establishes The Arts Centre’s musical theatre programme and puts it on the map nationally and internationally.
“There are some great shows later in the seasonincluding West End actress Julie Atherton and some really exciting future plans and collaborations between the performing arts department and The Arts Centre.”
Tickets are on sale now, priced at £20, £18 and £10 for Edge Hill University students.
