FROM the Chelford Review, w/c January 31 CATTLE Today’s average was 105/99p/ kg. Best black and whites well over 110p to a top of 134p/kg which weighed 818kg grossing £1096.12. Top price of day, a nine-year-old Limousin at 173p – £1,276.74. POULTRY Poultry gatherings are suspended following avian flu case. A temporary suspension on gatherings of some species of birds applies from Tuesday, December 20, 2016. The ban applies to chickens, turkeys, ducks and geese but not pigeons or aviary birds. There will be no poultry sales at Chelford or Beeston until further notice. PIGS Porkers average £97.43, cutters average £120.82, baconers average £98.06, overweight average £41.61 SHEEP The first couples of the year met with plenty of interest, top prices being a Texel full mouth ewe and twins at £195 (more entered for next Monday). The entry of in-lamb ewes were very keenly sought. Mule scanned for twins due March sold to £118.18, ewes with 29 lambs at foot average £47.95 per life. Already entered for next Monday: 6 Texel ewes with lambs at foot.
