Sporting success

MANY of you will know by now that I wanted ensure that my mayoral year could make a difference to some people and I decided the best way to do this was by raising as much money for my mayoral charities as possible.

One of the hardest things has been trying to sell tickets to events as we, the committee, often find that we are asking the same people over and over to come to events.

Our most successful fundraising event has to be the Sports Evening of Blue and Red with Kev Sheedy, Roy Evans and Sean Styles, which we held on Friday evening.

We raised £5,715 from the event and it wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity of so many local businesses and the fantastic organisation by my charity chairman, ably assisted by Jill Ryan from member services at the council.

The evening started with pie and peas and we then had a question and answer session hosted by Sean Styles and answered by Everton and Liverpool legends Kev Sheedy and Roy Evans.

We had some superb raffle prizes donated by local businesses.

Huytons of Aughton and the Acropolis in Ormskirk helped to ensure that our costs for the evening were at a minimum and of course Ormskirk Civic Hall and their volunteers did a fantastic job of ensuring that everyone’s thirst was met.

Following some comedy by Sean Styles we held an auction with some amazing bids for prizes donated mainly by local businesses.

I’d like to thank Pangea Sculptures, Hurlston Hall, Moor Hall Restaurant, Yaffe Photography, Holborn Wines, The Hayfield, Miller and Carter Aughton, Toby Carvery, Ormskirk Golf Club, Steve McKuhen, Beacon Park Golf Club, Huytons, The Acropolis, Toby Robinson, Mr Myagi and Everton Football Club and of course, Kev, Roy and Sean for making such a memorable evening.

The committee is now looking forward to future events. On Saturday, April 1 we will be having a Crown Green Bowling Competition at Ormskirk and on Tuesday, April 18 we are looking forward to holding a golf tournament at Hurlston Hall.

The cost of the golf tournament is £300 for a team of four and includes food on arrival and a twocourse dinner after play has stopped.

If you are interested in registering for any of these events, please contact the mayor’s office on 01695 585033.

Some of you will be aware that Ann England, who organises my mayoral year, has been away from work and I’m pleased to inform you that Ann is now back.
