Have your say on plan for homeless

-

RESIDENTS are being invited to give their views on a report that will guide how West Lancashire Borough Council helps some of the most vulnerable people in the area.

The council has carried out a review of homelessness in the borough and the findings have been used to create a new draft Homelessness Strategy for 2017-2022.

They now want residents and providers of local homelessness services to give their views as part of the development of the new strategy.

In the review it was found that despite homelessness nationally increasing, in West Lancashire, the number has been in decline since 2011.

The use of temporary accommodation is also low compared to national figures, with only 10 households being placed in 2015/16.

Key objectives of the strategy are to enhance the depth and range of housing advice services to meet current and future challenges, enhance the housing offer available to all homeless applicants in the borough and improve health and wellbeing. An action plan has been devised to meet those objectives.

Cllr Kevin Wright, whose portfolio includes responsibility for the strategy, said: “This strategy is a very important document as it helps the council assist some of the most vulnerable people in our community.

“I would urge people to take part in the consultation to ensure the final strategy reflects the requirements of local people.”

Comments can be sent by email to laura.lea@westlancs. gov.uk or by post to Private Sector Housing Team, 61 Westgate, Skelmersdale, WN8 8LP.

The consultation began on Monday, March 20 and the closing date for comments is May 1, 2017.
