Adam’s overture to make its debut

-

ANEW piece of music composed by a Maghull teacher is to be premiered at a fundraising concert in the town this weekend.

Adam Dutch, head of music at Maghull High School, has written Overture for Winds, which will be played for the first time by Maghull Wind Orchestra at the event at the town’s Baptist Church in Hall Lane, at 7.30pm on Saturday, April 29.

The concert will raise funds for the ME Association which works with sufferers from myalgic encephalopathy, the disease which causes extreme pain and fatigue among people of all ages.

Adam said: “I was inspired to write something when I took part in a weekend event last November, run by BASBWE, the British Association of Symphonic Bands and Wind Ensembles.

“I composed a number of pieces of music during my A-levels but I hadn’t done much since then.

“I used to really enjoy it so I thought I’d give it another go.”

The initial writing of the tune took him little more than a day, but there was a lot of refining after that.

Adam said: “It’s a multimovement piece which goes through different moods.

“There’s a sense of urgency in it, with a more reflective middle section, and then a repeat of the initial triumphant theme.

“Overall, it’s an optimistic piece.”

Adam, who was born in Maghull and now lives in Litherland, plays trombone in Maghull Wind Orchestra and the Swingshift Big Band.

He said: “MWO have done a very good job on my composition. I conducted them the first time they played it in rehearsal and it was eye-opening, experiencing my work come to life for the first time.”

Overture for Winds is part of a lively selection of music chosen for the concert by MWO’s musical director, Phil Shotton.

Admission is free, with donations invited to the ME Association.
