A vintage all classic

CROWDS enjoyed a weekend of glorious sunshine at the 2017 Leisure Lakes Steam & Vintage Vehicle Rally, with hundreds of classic cars, trucks and steam engines on show in Mere Brow.

More than 20 full-sized steam engines took centre stage at the former Riverside event’s new home at the Leisure Lakes resort, including the only surviving Foden-built Showman’s engine, “Prospector”.

The event was a real treat for steam enthusiasts, who came to marvel at the authentic work and attention to detail upheld by all the owners of full-size and miniature engines.

Hundreds of vintage and classic vehicles were also on display, gleaming in the sunshine for visitors to enjoy.

There was also an impressive line-up of cars, motorcycles, tractors and military vehicles.

There was plenty for the little ones to enjoy too, with the children’s fairground proving to be a storming success.

Kids could even ride on a miniature railway.

If the 100-year-old steam-powered gallopers weren’t enough to stir up some nostalgia in the older visitors, then the big wheel and organ certainly helped to create a grand atmosphere for all the family.

Aunt Nellie’s Victorian tea room was also on hand with hefty slabs of cakes and afternoon tea accompanied by live music.

Stalls sprang up around the Mere Brow leisure resort, offering food and other delights throughout the event.
