Relieved season has come to end

- BY EMMA SANDERS

BURSCOUGH’S season didn’t end the way they would have liked as they suffered yet another defeat against Ramsbottom United in their final fixture.

The Linnets have had a torrid season and their luck didn’t change when they found themselves on the wrong end of a 2-0 score-line yet again on Saturday.

It was the club’s sixth straight defeat and the result only showcased their position at the bottom of the table and subsequent relegation.

Club media officer Ross Chandley admitted it was another frustrating day for Burscough supporters and there were a few moments in the game which puzzled him.

“We lost 2-0 and that summed up our season really as again, we had chances to score but we just didn’t take them,” said Chandley.

“The confidence in the squad is obviously low given our past results and the fact the club has been relegated already didn’t help.

“We had to play Ben Morrow in goal as Richie Mottram was absent with injury and he couldn’t keep a clean sheet.

“He [Morrow] was at fault for the second goal too as he tried to round the striker inside his own six yard box.

“All five substitutes on the bench were from the youth team but even when we were a goal behind and had 30 minutes left to play, Keith McCann chose not to use any fresh legs.

“At this stage in the long season and with nothing to lose, it could have been a different outcome so it was bizarre he chose not to use any.”

Chandley also admitted there was no hiding the fact Burscough’s season has been hugely disappointing.

However, he hopes that now the campaign has ended, the club can focus its efforts on re-grouping for next season and its plans to move to a new stadium.

“Relief is probably the best word to describe the feeling now as the season is finally over,” said Chandley.

“It’s no secret it’s been a disappointing season but we can now start fresh and look forward rather than backwards.

“The plans for the new stadium have also made the future look brighter for this club so it’s not all doom and gloom.

“Promotion is obviously the target for next season.

“We are aware it’s a difficult league but everyone at the club will do their upmost to get this club back where we want it.”
