Step back in time for a medieval weekend

-

TAKE a step back in time and find out what life was like in West Lancashire 900 years ago at the Ormskirk Medieval Weekend at Coronation Park.

The free two-day extravaganza on Saturday and Sunday, May 12 and 13 will give visitors the chance to experience the sights, smells, sounds and tastes of both Norman England, and the exotic Byzantine Empire as two armies clash.

West Lancashire Borough Council parks and countryside service has organised the event where 12th century re-enactment group Historia Normannis will take you on a journey through time.

Over the weekend, the park will come alive with medievalthemed activities, entertainment and displays for people of all ages to enjoy between 11am and 4pm on both days.

Similar events held in previous years were extremely successful, with thousands of people attending.

Dave Tilleray, the council’s director of leisure and wellbeing, said: “Once again some wonderful displays and activities have been lined up which will make the Ormskirk Medieval Weekend a great treat for all the family. So make sure you come and enjoy this fantastic event.”

Members of Historia Normannis will do battle in combat displays and tournaments, bringing the events of the Crusades to life.

Visitors can try on the armour, take a closer look at the weapons and how they are made or even try their hand at archery.

Everyday life in the 12th century will be featured, with medieval cooking demonstrations and a fashion show to talk about the different styles of dress of the times. There will also be displays of medieval crafts and other other activities and stalls are planned.

Hungry visitors will be able to enjoy refreshments, there will also be face painting, children’s rides and a giant bouncy castle.
