Now here’s a good yarn ...

CELEBRATE local yarn shops this week with The Wool Boat, which is moored near Burscough Wharf. Whether you love crochet or prefer to work with needles, this Saturday’s Yarn Shop Day is a must for your diary.

On May 6, the fourth annual day will take place in craft stores across the country, and our locally- based Wool Boat is just one of the many shops that is excited to be involved.

The event has been organised by UK magazines Let’s Knit and Let’s Get Crafting in a bid to celebrate Britain’s muchloved independent wool shops.

“We can’t wait to take part in the event,” said Carole and “Captain Colin” –who run what they believe to be the world’s only floating wool and yarn shop.

“Crafting is growing in popularity, and we know that customers rely on their local yarn shop for more than just needles and wool.

“Many people come in for advice and they love to feel part of a crafting community.”

On May 6 and 7, Carole and Colin Wareing will have new yarns, free patterns and goody bags on the boat for the first customers of the day.

Carole has designed a new hat and cushion cover for the day and will have patterns for both to give away, with the yarn to knit them. There will be discounted yarns as well.

Carole said: “We are looking forward to welcoming customers old and new aboard, and hope our local knitters and crocheters will get involved.

“We’ll be open from 10am-5pm on both days.

“We had some fantastic feedback from our participating stores and many had their busiest trading day of the year.

“We’re really excited about this year’s event, which looks set to be the biggest and best one yet.’’

Yarn Shop Day is supported by leading names in the knitting and crochet industry.
