Pyatt breaks into UK top ten with record

- BY CHARLES GAINS

LIVERPOOL Pembroke and Sefton stars, Jenny Pyatt and Kirsty Longley, had a weekend to remember.

Guesting for Liverpool Harriers at a Youth Development League in Preston, Jenny threw the Discus an amazing 45.11m.

The 18 year old immediately leapt into the top 10 UK athletes and third in the Junior lists.

Needless to say it was also a club record.

The conditions were windy and not the best for throwing but Jenny is showing increasing confidence and maturity.

Coach Dave Brown is hopeful that her progress will attract the attention of the selectors for the World Championships in London this summer and she will get an invitation to the trials.

Kirsty Longley continues to improve even as a 40 year old.

The Cheshire 5K Road Race always attracts a top class field and Kirsty was immediately prominent in the Women’s race.

She eventually ran out fifth but was first Over 40.

Her time of 17.06 takes her to the top of the UK rankings in that age group.

Yet again this was a club record. Under the guidance of coach, Mark Bleasdale, she is demonstrating a capacity to sharpen herself for top quality competition.

She also demonstrates that age is no barrier to a thoroughly determined and committed athlete.
