Brownies’ pot of gold helps Rainbow House
PARBOLD Brownies have been working on a special badge organised by Girlguiding North West England – by helping out at Rainbow House.
The girls have learned a great deal about disabilities and how people cope with a whole range of challenging issues connected with disabilities.
The concept of the The Claire House Challenge was developed by Guides in association with the Wirral-based hospice.
But as part of the badge the Parbold girls helped out closer to home, visiting Rainbow House in Mawdesley.
They were able to meet the wonderful staff who work there helping people of all ages with a range of disabilities to improve the quality of their lives.
Rainbow House’s motto is Rehabilitation, Education and Fun.
The Brownies and their leaders were so moved by their visit that they decided to host a fundraising event to raise money for the facility.
A coffee evening was held at their meeting place – The Hut on the Hill, in Parbold – where the Brownies served refreshments, ran a raffle, tombola, sold their own toys and books, plus clothes and handbags donated by supporters.
Games such as guess the name of the teddy, guess the number of sweets in the jar, guess the weight of the rainbow cake and cuddly pull a string and find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
A number of Brownies worked on their hostess badge during the evening, serving drinks, collecting cups and doing the washing up.
Many of the girls and their parents made cakes and biscuits for the event as well as bunting to decorate the rooms.
The event was really well supported by families and friends of the Brownies as well as their teachers and other friends of Guiding.
The evening raised a massive £530. In addition, several of the Brownies and their families along with two of the Brownie leaders also completed the Rainbow Ramble on May 6.
Those Brownies had special t-shirts and received medals for completing the walk.
The two Brownie Leaders between them raised more than £500 in sponsorship for Rainbow House.
That was a great achievement for such a worthy, deserving cause.
