FROM the Beeston Review, w/c May 12 CATTLE The May mid-month Dairy Sale incorporat­ing the Western Holstein Club’s Focus Milk Collection of Pedigree Holsteins and commercial dairy cattle of all breeds and crosses attracted an entry 325 Head of which there were 160 fresh milking cattle and 165 In-calf and maiden heifers. 309 head were forward on the day. AVERAGES 69 Cows £1213.96; 87 Milking Heifers £1335.08; 31 In-calf and served heifers £1150.09; 130 Maiden Heifers £516.61; 3 Stock Bulls £1360.00. POULTRY Defra has announced that the ban on sales will be lifted on May 15. Subject to final approval our first weekly sale at Beeston will be on Thursday May 18 commencing at 10 am, market opens from 7am - first come, first served, no reservatio­ns. PIGS A smaller entry on offer than last week met a flying trade. Sows selling up to 83p/kg (good trade). Only one boar in weighing 179kg sold at 55p/kg. Porkers & cutters both selling to 130p/kg. Store pigs selling to £59 per head. A real good trade on all pigs. SHEEP 507 new season butchers lambs followed by 491 old season lambs. Small baled hay realised £2.50 per bale.
