Lancashire in shape to win the Recurve

-

THE archery inter-county between Warwickshire, Cheshire and Lancashire was organised by Warwickshire county archers this year.

Quantum Archers hosted the tournament at its home ground of King Edward VI School Handsworth, Birmingham.

The round shot was a WA1440 (formally known as a FITA 1440) which consists of 36 arrows being shot at each of the distances of 90, 70, 50 & 30 metres for the gents and 70, 60, 50 & 30 metres for the ladies starting at the furthest distance first.

A fairly strong breeze made the furthest distances a bit tricky for all the archers, but at the end of the first three dozen arrows the Lancashire Recurve and Longbow teams had gained a significant lead over Warwickshire and Cheshire.

Unfortunately, the Lancashire Compound team weren’t having the same success as their Recurve and Longbow teams.

Over the day, the breeze subsided and the Lancashire Recurve and Longbow teams continued to further increase their unchallenged lead.

The Lancashire Compound team were still not having much success but had moved up to second position behind the very strong Warwickshire team.

When the shoot had finished, all teams were treated to a magnificent buffet laid on by the hosting club while the final scores were being collated.

It came as no surprise as it was announced that the Recurve team winners where Lancashire.

Jack Grogan from Skelmersdale also won a separate medal for being the highest scoring recurve archer to go alongside his winning team medal.

Continuing the success for Lancashire the Longbow team also took the first-place trophy and medals.

Although making progress through the day, the Lancashire Compound archers never clawed enough points back to defeat the eventual winners who were the hosting county, Warwickshire.
