Muriel, 91, back to her best after op
A“CLEANINGMAD” great-gran is enjoying life again after getting a hip replacement at 91.
Before her operation, Muriel Saunders suffered chronic pain and was rendered immobile.
This stopped her from doing basic everyday tasks like going out in her garden or cleaning the house.
Muriel, who is originally from Southport but now lives in Halsall, said: “I love cleaning. My husband used to say ‘don’t stand too long otherwise you will be dusted, scrubbed and polished’.
“When my hip was bad it stopped me doing all my cleaning and I couldn’t go out or go shopping.”
With five children, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Muriel is embarking on a “new chapter” after having her right hip replaced at Renacres Hospital in Ormskirk earlier this year.
Muriel said: “I decided to get my hip done as I want to get on with the rest of my life.
“It is the best thing I have done, rather than put up with that horrible pain.
“There is no need to be scared or frightened of having your hip done. You’ve got to keep strong, haven’t you?
“Think about the future and all the advantages you get.”
Muriel is just one of a new, older generation of people undergoing hip replacement operations.
Renacres Hospital is running free monthly hips and knees information evenings with 10-minute one-to-one consultations.
