FROM the Chelford Review, w/e May 19 CATTLE Best clean cattle raced away to 247p/kg for a handy Blonde from Chris & Mark Shenton, Marshall Booth’s homebred Lim x heifer came close at 235p/kg and a handy sort from John Gate made 213p/kg. There was a bit of ‘power’ amongst the ranks, once again no problem to the buyers, vendors happy and assured that they are paid for every kilo. Some great headages as a result, Mark Chesworth sold OTM Blue steers to £1,537 (one of 3 cattle over £1,400), the Shenton family sold heifers to £1371 (one of 9 over £1,300). Solid and pleasing day. Bulls were a decent trade but a trade of two halves; without doubt the better bulls looked hardest to sell struggling to get to 200p/kg. Conversely, Black & Whites looked very well sold indeed topping at 173p/kg for Carol Addison and £1163 in the lump for Mr David Bromilow. POULTRY As normal for this time of year, a family took the top price, a broody hen and 10 Marran chicks £20. Closely followed by a pair of Indian Runners at £19 (all prices per head). A young goose sold for £15. A trio of large fowl New Hampshire £12. Three light Sussex Bantams Pullets fared well at £12, a trio of hookbills £10. The poultry auction is back every Thursday.
