Students put through their circus paces
ROLL up, roll up for free big top circus performances at Edge Hill University. Performing arts students are working with a circus company to put on two free public performances on the Edge Hill campus on Saturday, June 10.
Circus Sensible will be in residence from June 2, putting students through their paces with a week of workshops to prepare for the Beyond the Edge performances which promise a feast of circus spectacle and sheer silliness.
The 18 students from various performing arts courses will also help deliver interactive circus skills workshops for those attending, and will even be involved in building the big top.
In the run-up to the public performances, the show will be performed for 100 children from two Ormskirk primary schools, and the students will also entertain guests at a private reception to launch the university’s Festival of Ideas.
Circus Sensible’s Jon Sensible said: “The aim is to give the students experience of working as a circus professional and to advise on the skills needed to thrive as a self-employed performer.
“We at Circus Sensible have a large bank of independent practitioners we work with regularly, who specialise in various disciplines from dance to acrobatics, and I hope to see some Edge Hill students join those ranks in the future.”
The Beyond the Edge performances are suitable for all the family, and will take place at 11am and 2pm on Saturday, June 10. Book your place at www.edgehill.ac.uk
Performances will last for one hour and will take place in the Big Top tent outside The Arts Centre. Those wishing to take part in interactive circus skills workshops should arrive 20 minutes prior to the start of each performance.
