Travel students are off to a flier

-

WEST Lancashire College Travel and Tourism students have recently returned from their once-in-a-lifetime trip to British Airways headquarters at Heathrow Airport.

The students were invited to take part in a safety equipment and procedures awareness day alongside the BA crew.

The training experience provided students with cabin crew training including: safety demos, pilot incapacitation, principles of survival, slide descent and the slide raft.

The students also completed the fire, ground and smoke chamber exercises where they extinguished in-flight fires and completed the smoke-filled cabin exercise that is a requirement from the Civil Aviation Authority in order to gain your wings.

All travel and tourism students completed this scary process and would be able to complete their cabin crew training.

Student Jake Ball said: “The training was fantastic. It was great to see the training facilities at Heathrow and to experience the procedures that you could encounter on flight.

“My favourite part was the A320 slide during the slide descent, it has really made me think about what career I want to pursue.”

Students also had the chance of an indepth discussion with the trainers about employment, assessment days, interview processes and training that is provided by BA for long -haul and shorthaul flight.

The students’ opportunity to visit the British Airways headquarters was planned by their tutor, Rachel Atlee, who said: “The trip was a huge success. Most of the students who attended the trip want to go on to become cabin crew upon completion of their course so it was the perfect opportunity to experience the difficulty and determination needed for their desired job role.

“British Airways gave us a full day of unforgettable experiences for the students.

“This is hopefully something we can continue to do for the next year of travel and tourism students.’”

During the rest of their weekend, the students had the chance to explore London and the West End to utilise the rest of their time in the capital
