ASCARISBRICK pub has been selected to be in the final of the Great British Pub Awards. Heatons Bridge Inn, on Heaton Bridge Road in Scarisbrick, has been entered into the final of the Best Pub Garden category.

The Best Pub Garden category has been added to the competition this year – so the Heatons Bridge Inn is one of six in the first set of national finalists.

Owners of the pub Jacqui and Stephen Winrow are extremely pleased with the news.

Jacqui Winrow, 47, said: “We are all really made up about the news, it was such a shock.

“We entered the competition to give something back, as members of the community help to keep the gardens looking nice.”

The Great British Pub awards host 17 categories in total, including Best Sports Pub, Best Student Pub and Best Family Pub.

The Great British Pub competition has been running for 17 years, and aims to recognise the best pub operators in the country.

Jacqui added: “My parents, Val and Brian, have spent the last six years taking their time out to weed and mow the lawns, it is by their hard work that we had entered the competition.

“We will be having a judge on site at some point in early August, but there is still got lots to do from now until judging day.”

The Great British Pub awards evening will take place on Thursday, September 7 at the Hilton hotel, on Park Lane in London.
