Students get fashion show chance to Shine

-

STUDENTS at Ormskirk School have staged their third successful charity fashion show.

It was done through an initiative called Shine, a bespoke programme written and directed by Ormskirk’s School pastoral mentor Hayley Coggins.

The scheme aims to inspire the lives of young people through creativity and enterprise while building confidence, resilience and self-esteem.

The programme is a natural playground for creativity and new ideas, turning talents and inspiration into action; this process encourages originality while helping various charities throughout the year.

This year, Mrs Coggins and her team of sixthform Shine ambassadors Georgia, Niamh and Kyra, organised the show at Ormskirk School, which supported Core charity UK, an organisation committed to fighting all digestive diseases by supporting medical research to save lives.

“Shine around the world” gave the audience a first-class ticket to glamour, celebration, creativity and inspiration.

Fashion, art, dance and food led the audience from London to Paris, Barcelona, New York and then to Venice, on a journey hosted by Year 7 pupil Daniel.

An explosion of movement and “girl power” choreographed by another pupil, Georgia, opened the show, followed by more emotive music and compassionate dance performances as the talent continued to flow down the catwalk.

Through the multi-disciplined talents of the Shine crew, the crowd was encouraged to experience various cosmopolitan locations and atmospheres throughout the evening.

This year, Shine was sponsored by Trudy Smith, Ormskirk, and John Lewis, Liverpool.

Before the event, students and members from the staff support team had the opportunity to experience the personal styling service at John Lewis which prepared them for the London scene, Royal Ready.

Outfits from big name designers such as Ted Baker, Karen Millen, Ralph Lauren, Phase 8 and many more were teamed with John Lewis accessories and beautifully showcased on the runway.

Technical expertise by Year 9 student Scott, provided performanceenhancing light and music and during the interval the red carpet led guests to a new “Shine and Dine” experience sampling themed dishes from around the world.

Unique pop-up shops and elaborate display areas showcased considerable artistic talents and proved extremely popular.

A year of careful planning culminated in a highly successful showcase of talent which raised more than £1,500 for Core UK - another star-studded performance from the Shine team.
