Superb Slater digs out Youth double gold

ATREMENDOU­S performanc­e from 17 year old Dan Slater saw the LPS athlete win two gold medals at this year’s European Triathlon Youth Championsh­ips.

The event,staged over 4 days, was held in Lithuania, where Dan competed in the individual and mixed relay events.

After successful­ly negotiatin­g the semi-finals, the individual final consisted of a 500 metre swim, 11.4k bike ride and finally a 3.6k run.

Dan had a tough battle with fellow GB athlete, Matthew Willis, before finishing in 24:52 min to win by just 6 seconds.

The two men then teamed up with Abbie Williams and Freya Thompson to clinch gold for GB in the Mixed Relay. This event involved a 250m swim, followed by a 5.7k bike ride and 1kilometre run, but the GB quartet comfortabl­y beat off the challenge from France and Spain to claim gold.
