Superb Slater digs out Youth double gold
ATREMENDOUS performance from 17 year old Dan Slater saw the LPS athlete win two gold medals at this year’s European Triathlon Youth Championships.
The event,staged over 4 days, was held in Lithuania, where Dan competed in the individual and mixed relay events.
After successfully negotiating the semi-finals, the individual final consisted of a 500 metre swim, 11.4k bike ride and finally a 3.6k run.
Dan had a tough battle with fellow GB athlete, Matthew Willis, before finishing in 24:52 min to win by just 6 seconds.
The two men then teamed up with Abbie Williams and Freya Thompson to clinch gold for GB in the Mixed Relay. This event involved a 250m swim, followed by a 5.7k bike ride and 1kilometre run, but the GB quartet comfortably beat off the challenge from France and Spain to claim gold.
