Rock on, Tommy!

School cheers on ex-pupil going for Open glory

-

SCARISBRICK Hall School staff and pupils gathered to send a message of good luck to former pupil Tommy Fleetwood.

Golf star Tommy is preparing to take part in the 146th British Open at Royal Birkdale.

Erica Squire, who taught him drama, still believes that he would make a great actor – despite his golf success.

Tommy used to practice his golf swing in the grounds of Scarisbrick Hall School and in recent years when the lake was dredged the groundsmen came across a number of golf balls that he had hit into the lake.

Ina Taylor, who teaches geography, said “I remember Tommy as a lovable character.

“He enjoyed his drama at GCSE and he had a real talent.

“However, despite his many golfing successes, he was always very reserved about his achievements.”

Golf is now played by a number of pupils at the school as part of their extracurricular activities and they are also taking part in national competitions.

Jeff Shaw, the school’s head, said “On behalf of everyone at Scarisbrick Hall School, we would like to wish Tommy every success this week and with his future career.

“We are looking forward to welcoming him back for a visit in the autumn term.”
