Lauren takes her triple chance at redemption

- BY WALLY BRIDSON

THE final Mid-Lancs fixture held at Litherland was something of a low key event with most clubs depleted due to athletes away on holiday.

However, there were still some excellent performances from Liverpool Pembroke & Sefton athletes on the day.

Lauren Lewis (U17), following her disappointment at the English Schools, responded with three victories in the 100m (12.9), 200m (26.4) and long jump (5.21m).

Abigael Bamber (U15) did not quite complete a sprint double, winning the 100m (13.4) but was edged into second place in the 200m (27.7).

Olivia Evans-Yates was the pick of the U15 girls in the long jump, finishing second with a leap of 4.56m.

In the same age group, Ebony Raw reached new heights in the high jump, finishing second with 1.45m.

At senior level, Kirsty Longley was a comfortable winner in the 1500m with a season’s best time of 4:49.6, Lucy Townson was first in the 200m (26.8) and second in the 400m (60.1) while Lucy Wroblewski was second in the javelin (24.45m).

In the men’s team, Matt Ingram completed a double in the horizontal jumps with victory in the long jump (6.36m) and triple jump (13.08m) while Jonathon Bride reduced his PB by four seconds with victory in the 1500m (4:12.7).

Veteran Dave Brown accrued some useful points in the throws events with second place in the discus (30.20m) and hammer (27.94m) and fourth in the shot (8.56m).

The 800m race was a battle for club pride with Jack Crook (2:05.6) getting the better of James Metcalfe (2:06.3) and Joe Mulhall (2:07.5).

Undoubtedly, the race of the day was in the U17 100m with Callum Garvey just getting the better of teammate Ciaran Scroggie. They could not be separated by the timekeepers with both boys being given the same time of 12 seconds.

Ciaran then returned to finish second in the 200m (24.3).

Max Dawson (U17) extended his PB in the javelin by over four metres when he finished second with a throw of 36.08m.

Kai Finch (1.90m) won the high jump from teammate Owen Southern, who returned to form with a leap of 1.80m.

Although only finishing fourth in the high jump, Mark Roberts (U15) continues to improve and his clearance of 1.55m was a new PB, while on the track he finished second in the 400m (59.2).

Harry Steele battled bravely to finish second in the 200m race (25.6) and Fletcher Foster continues to improve with a new PB in the 800m of 2:19.6.

Jacob Slater was the pick of the U13 boys, finishing second in the 1500m (5:05.5).

The girls’ points total of 105 saw them finish second behind Preston Harriers (219.5) while the boys finished third (124) behind Preston (200) and Blackpool (131).
