Treble delight for Ormskirk

- BY EMMA SANDERS

ORMSKIRK CC is full of celebrations all-round as the club secured three league titles in the same day.

The 1st XI travelled to Bootle in search of the Liverpool Gin Liverpool Competition Premier League crown needing just seven points in order to become champions.

A victory would have been preferable, but Ormskirk ensured they took the title with a comfortable draw.

They batted first and put together an impressive tally of 239-1 before declaring, but weren’t able to bowl Bootle out within 50 overs.

Mike Jones (90 not out) Josh Bohannon (80 not out) and Andy Baybutt (42) were the stand-out performers with the bat.

The 2nd XI needed a victory to earn their championship title and they achieved it in some style as they thrashed Birkenhead Park on Saturday.

Ormskirk bowled the visitors out for just 110 runs before putting on a superb batting display to ensure they got the victory they needed.

Jamie Barnes produced an excellent display with the ball in hand, picking up four wickets for just 29 runs, while Alex Rankin led the way at the crease with a score of 63 not out.

Last – but by no means least – it was the 3rd XI’s turn to claim their league title.

They also did so with ease as they defeated Sefton Park comfortably on their own pitch.

Ormskirk won by eight wickets as they bowled Sefton out for 115. Colin Inkson took four wickets but Ed Brown produced the most impressive display as he took three wickets for only seven runs.

He then notched up a tally of 52 not out with the bat and was supported by Shaun Brocken (35 not out) as the Brook Lane club took their third championship win of the season.

As if three league championships weren’t enough to celebrate in one weekend, the 1st XI also had an opportunity to lift the Lancashire Cup on Sunday.

They travelled to Old Trafford to take on Blackpool, but only nine overs were played before rain affected play.

The fixture has been re-scheduled for this Sunday, where Ormskirk will be hoping to clinch the double following a hugely impressive campaign.
