Dynamo opens up hub offering sport for all
A NEW multi-sports hub has been opened by Burscough Dynamo FC.
The upgraded venue will be opened last Sunday after undergoing extensive improvements.
The site, known as the Thomas Galvin Sports Ground, was reopened by Joan Galvin, as her late husband was instrumental in starting junior football in the area.
The club conducted a significant pitch drainage project, as the site was previously out of use due to waterlogging.
Now, it has the latest type of surface, allowing it to deliver more effective training, and cut the number of game cancellations.
The venue has six fullsize pitches, one 9v9 pitch, four mini-soccer pitches and a changing pavilion with club room.
Burscough Dynamo also now has a permanent home to help it retain and develop its players as well as attract new ones.
An overall rise in football participation of 79% is expected, partly due to the club’s plans to establish 11 new teams.
The facility will also be used by Burscough Priory High School, Digmoor FC and Sacre Coeur FP FC’s over-40 team.
It is hoped the new hub can also support cricket sessions, and be used for PE by local primaries.
The funding was made available via a £98,043 grant from the Premier League and FA Facilities Fund, delivered by the Football Foundation.
Dynamo chairman Simon Kenyon said: “The funding will allow the facility to be used once again mainly for grassroots football, but will allow us to offer cricket and other sports.
“It will also allow Burscough Dynamo FC to develop its mini-soccer, adult football and female football sections, as well as offering holiday activities and other sporting opportunities.”
