THE owners of the oldest pub in Lancashire are searching for new landlords.

Admiral Taverns are advertising for a new licensee, or licensees, to take over the running of the historic Scotch Piper pub in Lydiate.

The pub, in Southport road, dates back to 1320 but was devastated by fire in December 2016.

It reopened in April after £140,000 repair and improvement works, notably to the traditional thatched roof which had been badly damaged, with new landlords Colin Rimmer and Jamie Green taking over.

Speaking in April, commercial pilot Jamie said that it was a “dream come true” to be taking over the pub.

However, the owners are now searching for a new individual or couple to take over the pub, which features a large beer garden and has also operated a marquee at the rear for functions and weddings.

The pub is listed as being available for a fiveyear lease, with an annual rent of £22,500. Anyone taking over will also be able to live at the property, with private accommodation split between the ground floor.

On the ground floor is a lounge, bathroom and domestic kitchen and on floor and first the first floor are two bedrooms.

As well as its traditional thatched roof and whitewashed walls, the Scotch Piper is also famous for its real ales, regularly featuring in Camra’s Good Beer Guide, and in 2015 it was named Liverpool Camra’s Community Pub of the Year.

Admiral says that it is willing to invest to refurbish and improve the pub.

The listing states: “The Scotch Piper trades as a community local pub and is very well known in the area and benefit from locals and walkers/ cyclists.

“Admiral Taverns are looking for an individual or couple who have experience as licensees and will look to develop the current offer. With the right licensee, Admiral Taverns will look to potentially invest in the property.

“The outlet trades from a small central bar with three separate snug areas.

“Although there is no catering kitchen, there is huge potential to offer a small back bar food offer such as paninis and pies.

“There is a large beer garden to the side of the pub with benches and a car park for up to 25 cars.”

Anyone interested in taking over the pub should call 01244 321171.
