‘Hooliganism’ leads to rise in policing

-

POLICE have announced a greater presence in Tarleton. This comes after police received “a large number of complaints and concerns from local residents, councillors and MPs in relation to ongoing anti-social behaviour and criminal activity by youths at Marks Square in Tarleton.”

According to the police, some of the alleged anti-social behaviour has included criminal damage, shoplifting, assaults and drug use.

County councillor Malcolm Barron is “very thankful” to the police, and said they have taken reports from local residents seriously.

He said: “I have received several complaints from local residents stating that there has been hooliganism in Marks Square.

“Unfortunately, rowdy behaviour from youths has been upsetting local people and shops nearby.

“Myself and Seema Kennedy, the MP for South Ribble, are following up all these complaints.”

In response to the allegations, a spokesperson for Ormskirk police said: “We will be increasing our presence within the area to deter this behaviour.

“Anyone seen acting in an antisocial manner will have their details taken and schools and parents will be informed as a minimum.”

Cllr Barron added: “There is little to do for youths around here, and myself and the parish council are looking into ways to engage them in other activities.

“We have been in talks about updating the skate park.

“They are not vicious – they just have nothing to do.”
