AN ORMSKIRK firm offers a variety of lifelike animal sculptures – and each one is handmade and unique.

Pangea Sculptures, based on County Road, creates life-size metal sculptures of a range of animals you can find in Africa.

The tallest sculpture on offer is a 14ft giraffe, which retails for £3,495.

It also sells a life-size elephant, which is 8-9ft tall, and is the most expensive item on offer, retailing at £3,395.

But, in order to cater for everyone, the store also ensures it offers affordable options.

The smallest piece, and the cheapest, is a 1ft giraffe, which is on sale for £50.

All of the unique items on sale are crafted in Nairobi, in Kenya, and are made out of recycled car parts and oil drums before being brought to the Ormskirk showroom.

When the business began in 2014, they had only three artisan craftsmen in Kenya. However, just three years later, they now have a team of 30.

Pangea showroom manager Bev Howard said: “Every piece we sell here is completely unique and different, they are all handmade.

“They are made by people who see these animals all the time and therefore, their interpretations are very lifelike.”

Bev said that the elephant and giraffe are the most popular sculptures, but they also sell models based on a wide range of other animals, including, eagles, hippos, crocodiles, cheetahs and rhinos.

They also have some “reindeer” stags, in form of a stag heads or full stag, which are intended to enhance any winter wonderland display.

Bev expects that the stag sculptures will be very popular at Christmas as well as the small elephant and giraffe models, as they make unique Christmas presents.

Ian Unsworth, owner of Pangea Sculptures, added: “We are extremely excited about this Christmas and the animal sculptures, which will make fantastic gifts for all of the family.

“Not only are we working to ensure that Pangea Sculptures is a sustainable company for the craftsmen and their families in Nairobi, we are delighted to be working with them and seeing their stunning sculptures and artisan work really come to life through our partnership.”
