Ormskirk Advertiser

With Cllr Neil Furey

-

ON Wednesday, October 11 I held a reception for Ormskirk Cricket Club following their unprecedented season of success with their first, second and third teams finishing as league champions.

Well done to all those involved for their superb performance during the season.

On Thursday, October 12 I held mock council meetings in the council chamber as part of Local Democracy Week.

Children from Crow Orchard Primary School and Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Engineering College took part in a debate and we carried out some voting exercises.

The children really enjoyed their visit and had plenty to say on recycling and planning for housing.

Thank you to both schools for taking part and demonstrating a strong interest in local democracy.

On Friday, October 13 I was invited by the Mayor of Halton council to the opening of the new Mersey Gateway bridge.

Some £600m has been spent on this project and it was great to see it finally opened.

Major infrastructure projects of this size are vital to keep us on the move and it’s great to see such investment here in the North West.

On Sunday, October 15 I attended the Cystic Fibrosis Trust Ormskirk & District Family Fun Run at Edge Hill University.

It was great to see so many families taking part in order to raise funds.

It was a lovely morning with everyone receiving a medal for their efforts.

Well done to everyone who took part and to the organisers for arranging this excellent event.

In the afternoon I joined other guests for a Pause for Hope Service organised by the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

The service was held at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King in Liverpool.

This was a very special service as we pray for all those affected by cancer and to the dedicated professionals and volunteers who continue to care for those suffering from cancer. Mayor’s Charity Event
