100 firms may benefit after changes to rate relief are confirmed by council

-

WEST Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper has welcomed the commitment from West Lancashire Borough Council about the impending business rate relief changes.

Under the Supporting Small Business and Public House Relief Schemes, up to 100 businesses across West Lancashire may stand to benefit financially from business rate relief changes. Updates are also being considered to the Discretionary Business Rates Relief Scheme.

The MP wrote to West Lancashire Borough Council to get an update on the work and to ensure that the schemes were going ahead and businesses were being identified who may benefit.

Council chief executive Kim Webber has indicated that the financial allocations will be made in the coming months.

West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper said: “With high streets declining across the country and small businesses struggling with the battle against online competition, it is important national and local Government are doing everything they can to promote sustainability and growth for small businesses.

“I am assured that once the council gets its specific software updated, they will begin to notify local businesses who could benefit from the new rules.

“For any business in West Lancashire who thinks they may be eligible make sure to get in touch with West Lancashire Borough Council for more information on the eligibility criteria.”
