MP and Mayor praise teenagers’ charity work

-

SEFTON Central MP Bill Esterson joined the Mayor of Maghull to praise young people who raised hundreds of pounds to help victims of rape and sexual assault in Merseyside.

The MP, along with Maghull mayor Cllr June Burns, attended a coffee morning in Crosby organised by teenagers taking part in the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme through the area’s Catch 22 service.

The group of 12 from Sefton raised £268.98 for RASA Merseyside, which provides crisis and therapeutic support to individuals affected by sexual violence.

As well as the coffee morning, the group completed a five-mile hike and set up a Just Giving page.

They then visited residents at nearby Nazareth House residential home in Liverpool Road to help address the issue of loneliness in the older generation.

Mr Esterson said: “It was a pleasure to go along to support the coffee morning organised by these inspirational young people. They had clearly built up a special bond as they took part in the fourweek programme.”

Over the summer of 2017 hundreds of young people took part in the programme in Liverpool, Sefton and Wirral, raising £38,164.93 and volunteering 58,200 hours.
