FROM the Chelford Review, w/e November 24 CATTLE All classes of cattle represente­d in the ranks but a shortage of one or two superstars, particular­ly in the clean section. Clean cattle saw John Riley out in front with Angus x at 200p/kg (£1260), one of 3 from the same home ALL OVER £1200.

A super run of cattle from Messrs Wilkinson saw steers to 194p/kg and heifers to 197p/kg (£1152), only topped by a Hereford x from Market Drayton at £1175. POULTRY Slightly more poultry in this week. More wanted for next week.

This week the top sellers were two Buff Orpington Ducks at £11 (all prices per head) POL always wanted with 4 Pencilled Plymouth Rock 28 weeks selling for £10 and 3 Black Rock POL £6.50. A light Sussex Cockerel sold for £5. Wanted 100 Cobb Cocks for the Christmas trade 7-10 lbs. Contact Graham 07799 410560. PIGS 53 fat pigs in and a small entry of 5 store pigs, a strong demand for the prime butcher’s pigs. Topping this week’s sale was pen of super butcher’s pigs from Mr Selwyn Hughes 82kg and selling for 143ppk. Most of the prime pigs were between 130ppk to 143ppk. Medium pigs were between 110ppk to 128ppk. Others from 90ppk to 108ppk. SHEEP Another good week at Beeston with some great quality ewes and rams under the hammer Topping this week sale was £107 for a good Texel x tup from Mr H Taylor, Hope House Farm. Prime Ewes selling between £70 to £86, Medium Ewes selling between £45 to £68, Smaller Welsh x Ewes selling between £25 to £42. FRUIT & VEG A range of veg and potatoes on offer which is drawing the same purchasers each week. PRODUCE A good crowd saw Barley Straw in Quads reach £138 per tonne for a ten tonne trailer load. “Cow” Hay in Quads realised £95 per tonne for a seven and a half tonne load. Small baled August Horse Hay made £3.80 per bale (45 bales) and small baled Barley Straw £3.40 per bale (16 bales). Two loads of Wheat Straw failed to arrive due to wagon mechanical issues. Both hope to be with us on November 30. One load of Quad bale Wheat Straw sold privately for £105 per tonne.
