FROM the Beeston Review, w/e December 22 CATTLE Butchers Cattle: Prime bulls from Messrs Wilcock to 223p/kg and 215p/kg returning a healthy headage of £1,438, OTM heifers from Mr Jones to 185p/kg or £1100 in the lump, handy Hereford heifers to 179p/kg! Rearing Calves: a pleasing show of 219 calves forward with a busy ring with 26 buyers purchasing on the day. Continenta­l Bulls: Top call £360 and £350 for TS&AE Hartley’s Blues. Native Bulls: Top call was £260 for JM&JK Cliffe & Son, followed by DP Nicholas at £258. Dairy Bulls: Very few strong rearers in, with some young bulls to £88 for TS&AE Hartley, Shorthorns to £92 and £85 for Ithell Bros. Tb calves: Top price £75 with most being £25-£40 POULTRY Over 300 head of poultry came under the hammer and a total clearance was achieved. Although we have had three live Christmas Turkey sales, there were still more turkeys on offer. Nine 38lb stag turkeys sold up to £25 (all prices per head); three geese sold for £20. Alesbury Duck and Drake sold for £10. Cockerels sold well with numerous lots selling upto £9. PIGS The quality we have received this week is outstandin­g. Best prime pigs selling to 145ppk. Also top pen per head £143 per head. Excellent trade and a strong demand for these quality pigs at Beeston. Top price ppk went to Jac Davies with a lovely pair of gilta selling for 145ppk SHEEP Prime ewes selling between £101, medium ewes selling between £50, Smaller Welsh x ewes selling between £35 to £42. Overall ewes averaged £44.22per head, Overall rams averaged £124 per head. New season butchers lambs: Premium: Max p/pk - 221ppk Ave .p/pk 205ppk Prime: Max p/pk 200ppk Ave .p/pk - 195ppk Others: Max p/pk 188ppk Ave .p/pk- 176ppk POTATOES Wilja to £5.50, Monte Carlo to £4.80, Harmony to £3.50 per bag. FRUIT & VEG Carrots to £2.20, parsnips to £2.50, sprouts to £5 but large entries of cabbage, hard work at around £2 per box. PRODUCE A seasonal entry and 100% clearance. Barley Straw in Quads - £128 per tonne. Wheat Straw in Quads - £121 per tonne.
