Poundland recalls toy in fire safety fear

-

POUNDLAND has recalled a a microwaveable cuddly toy over fears the product could catch fire.

The discount retailer is asking customers not to use the “Heated Hugs” monkey after a woman claimed that her seven-year-old daughter’s warmer burst into flames after she took it to bed.

The items were on sale for £5 at Poundland stores throughout West Lancashire and UK-wide but customers are advised not to use them again.

A Poundland spokesman said: “We’re sorry to say our Heated Hugs that you pop into the microwave have incorrect heating instructions on the packaging.

“There is a risk that the pouch could over heat whilst in the microwave and as we take the safety of our customers seriously, we have taken the decision to immediately remove the product from our shelves. If any of our customers have bought one of these as a gift or for themselves, we’d urge them to not use it and return it to one of our stores, even without receipt, for a full refund.

“Despite loving huggable animals, we’re very sorry to any customers for the inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation.

“The product has been on sale in Poundland stores for £5 from the end of November.

“Should you have any queries or concerns regarding this information please call our customer service team on 0333 234 1877.”
