Desperate appeal for lost dogs

AGRANDMOTHER has launched a desperate appeal after the dogs which helped her cope with the death of her longterm partner went missing.

Sue Lace, 70, and her family were “absolutely devastated” when they could not find their dogs at their West Lancashire home last Tuesday (January 30).

The dogs are black and white English springer spaniels, one named Molly, who is six months old, and one named Daisy, who is three years old.

Molly belongs to Sue’s daughter and son-in-law who have two children, all of whom are now “heartbroken” by the news. Sue said: “I went to work and my son-in-law was in the garden with the two dogs, having a lovely time.

“When I came home, the gate at the back of my garden was open and the dogs were missing.

“It is out of character for them not to return home, and we searched for them until midnight.

“I did not open the gate, and neither did my son-in-law, so we believe they have been taken.”

Although many people think of their pets as one of the family, Sue developed a particular connection with Daisy after she helped her when she was grieving for her partner of 25 years.

Sue said: “Daisy is a huge comfort to me, she helped me when my partner died in a tragic accident on holiday.

“With her going missing, it has taken me back to what I was like 15 months ago.”

And her two grandchildren, who owned Molly, are finding it difficult to cope with their loss.

Sue added: “The children have not long lost their grandfather, and now they’ve lost their dogs too.

“They are very upset – we all are, it’s another loss to all of us.”

Since the pets went missing from the home in Wrightington, the family have conducted search parties, contacted the police, put posters up in the area and informed lost dog organisations.

Lancashire police have confirmed that the incident was reported on January 31 at 6.15am and the case is currently under investigation.

Sue said: “Being such a huge part of their family’s life, they are so deeply missed.

“My young grandchildren cannot understand why nobody has brought them back home. “We will never stop looking.” Anyone with any information is asked to contact the police on 101 quoting 0184 of Jan 31.
