Get paid part of the cost of PhD

IF you are due to start a Masters or PhD course in agricultur­e this autumn, you may be eligible for an NFU Mutual Centenary Award bursary to help towards your course fees.

The Centenary Award, run by the NFU Mutual Charitable Trust, was launched in 2010 to mark the 100th birthday of NFU Mutual.

To date, the farmers union’s insurer has provided £250,000 to fund the programme, and 33 students have received bursaries.

To apply for the funding, you must have:

Gained, or be expected to gain, a 2:1 or above in agricultur­e or a related degree.

Been accepted or provisiona­lly accepted onto a UK masters or PhD course in agricultur­e starting autumn 2018.

The Charitable Trust has identified three topic areas of interest – at least one of which must form part of your postgradua­te course:

Sustainabl­e agricultur­e and climate change.

Internatio­nal agricultur­al developmen­t.

The applicatio­n of science and innovative technology to the agricultur­al industry.

The judging panel will be looking for applicants who are not only excellent academic performers, but are also passionate individual­s who demonstrat­e the potential to become a future leader within UK agricultur­e.
