Man is injured after M58 shut by crash
A MAN suffered serious injuries after a major crash closed the M58 in both directions on Sunday morning.
Sudden snowy conditions caused chaos, with 10 ambulances attending and an air ambulance landing near junction 5 for Upholland.
North West Air Ambulance confirmed two people were taken to hospital – one with “major trauma” – and a number of casualties treated at the scene.
A man in his 30s was rushed to Aintree hospital by road with serious injuries, and a second patient was taken to Wigan.
A spokeswoman for North West Ambulance Service said: “He was taken by land ambulance. Air ambulance did attend.”
Details of the second casualty’s injuries were not made available by the ambulance service.
Emergency services called the crash a ‘major incident’ and the M58 was closed both ways as crews worked to clear it.
